MATHEMATICS for class IX Syllabus
- Number system: Irrational numbers, laws of exponents for real
numbers, operations on real numbers, real numbers and their decimal
expansion, representation of real numbers on number line, difference
between rational and irrational numbers. - Simple interest (revision) and compound interest.
- Algebraic identities, facorization of polynomials, polynomials in one
variable, remainder theorem, zeroes of a polynomial. - Linear equations in two variables, graph of a linear equation in two
variables. - Indices/exponents, Logarithm.
- Angle sum property of a triangle, exterior angle property of a
triangle, pairs of angles, parallel lines and transversal. - Congruency of triangles: four cases, SSS, SAS, AAS, RHS. Simple
applications. Problems based on (a) angles opposite equal sides are
equal and converse; (b) If two sides of a triangle are unequal, then the
greater angle is opposite the greater side and vice versa; (c) Sum of
any two sides is greater than the third side; (d) Of all straight lines
that can be drawn to a given line from a point outside it, the
perpendicular is the shortest. - Mid point theorem (triangle) and its converse, equal intercept
theorem. - Pythagoras theorem.
- Quadrilaterals, fundamental properties.
- Figures on the same base and between the same parallels:
parallelograms on the same base and between the same parallels,
triangles on the same base and between the same parallels. - Proof and use of theorems on parallelograms.
- Circle: chord properties, arc and chord properties.
- Construction of triangles, quadrilaterals and polygons.
- Heron’s formula: Application of Heron’s formula in finding the areas
of quadrilaterals. - Coordinate geometry: Cartesian system, plotting of points in the
plane for given coordinates; solving simultaneous linear equations in
two variables graphically; finding the distance between two points
using distance formula. - Mensuration: Area and perimeter of a triangle, area and
circumference of circle, surface area and volume of cube and cuboid;
surface area and volume of right circular cone, right circular cylinder,
and sphere. - Trigonometry: trigonometric ratios, trigonometric ratios of standard
angles, simple 2D problems involving one right angled triangle,
concept of trigonometric ratios of complementary angles and their
direct application. - Statistics: introduction, collection of data, presentation of data,
graphical representation of data; measures of central tendency, mean,
median of ungrouped data. - Probability: experimental probability, simple practical problems.
- Additional advanced topics: harder factorization, harder
simplifications; arithmetic progression, symmetry, additional
constructions.
